Real-time field measurements to optimize irrigation

Our agroNET deployment as an inspiring European Commission’s Watify Success Story.

agroNET pilot deployment is a joint effort between “13 Jul Plantaže“, University of Donja Gorica and DunavNET. The main objective of the project was validation of agroNET benefits, particularly in relation to optimization of the irrigation practices as the first step leading towards a large-scale deployment.

Deployment was done during 2017 irrigation season. Devices measuring soil moisture were deployed at eight locations in the over 2000ha large vineyard. Data collected by sensors was combined with the soil characteristics, current weather conditions and weather forecasts, and fed to the irrigNET data analytics module (one of the expert modules offered by agroNET).

irrigNET module creates recipes for irrigation, defining the right time and amount of water needed for irrigation, helping in optimizing the number of irrigation cycles, cost decreasing and water saving.

This project is just a beginning of improving and optimizing grape production by using new technologies and first step of digitization of grape production as a whole.
